News from the Executive Board
President’s Message
I hope you all “fell back” this week when the time changed. Maybe you were able to get an extra hour of practice in!
A big shoutout to Canadian Vice President Arthur McGregor, Eve Goldberg and Debra Cowan who represented Local 1000 at Folk Music Ontario (FMO) last month. These three shared the power of being in Local 1000 and secured several new members! Thanks you three.
A reminder that our next Membership Meeting is on November 10th at 4:30-6:30 PM EST at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Confrerence. This meeting will be both online and in person. The material for the meeting can be found here.
There you will find the agenda, minutes from our May Membership meeting, financial reports, proposed 2023 budget, proposed by-law changes, new scales recommendations, committee reports and much more. Please make sure you read through these before the meeting. If you are not going to be with us at NERFA please join us on the Zoom link.
We are excited to be taking part in the NERFA conference in Asbury Park, NJ. For those that are attending in person, Local 1000 has secured a discount for L1K members. Please check with the office to get information. Join us Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Showcase Free Zone room and come and find us at our booth in the exhibit hall.
Please make sure you read all the wonderful articles written by your committee chairs. There is lots of great information that you won’t want to miss.
Together we are Mighty!
President Fowler

Canadian Corner
A few weeks ago I represented Local 1000’s Fair Trade Music initiative at the Folk Music Ontario conference in London, ON. Along with fellow L1K member, Deb Cowan, we promoted Local 1000 with energy and information, resulting in some new members, increased visibility, and a meeting with Liana White from the Canadian Federation of Musicians. I was a panelist on a well-attended session on Fair Trade Music. Our DEI programme was mentioned as part of our work for our members.
To all our east coast members, please check out the emergency funding from the AFM/CFM that may be available to you to help mitigate the effects of hurricane Fiona.
