Local 1000 at Folk Alliance International 2018
We hope to see many of you at Folk Alliance in Kansas City, February 14 – 18th!
In addition to our membership meeting on Wednesday afternoon, we will be hosting late night song circles in our Showcase Free Zone, Wednesday-Saturday night in room 630. This is a chance for us to get away from the craziness of the showcase environment and share music in a non-competitive community setting. Stop by after the evening concerts and share a song or two!

We are running a membership drive right now where the $100 initiation fee is waived for new members. If you know someone who should be a member, please encourage them to visit our table and join up at the conference!

Local 1000 Member Retreat / Great Labor Arts Exchange
Local 1000 will be celebrating 25 years this year, and to mark the occasion, we will be partnering with the Great Labor Arts Exchange (GLAE), where Local 1000 was born those many years ago. We will be presenting a stream of programming as part of the GLAE annual gathering in Silver Spring, MD from Thursday June 21 – Sunday June 24, 2018. On Sunday, after the gathering is over, we will hold a member retreat and gathering for the day, followed by a party.

February Cyber Union Call with Samantha Martin on “Tour Organization”
Join us for our February Cyber Union call with Samantha Martin. Samantha is a Canadian member who will share her insights on Tour Organization.
How do how do you keep on top of all the details of the road: where you need to be when, how long your travel time will be that day, where you are staying, dealing with money, merchandise, people etc. etc? How do you stay on top of your other business while you are on the road? What tools and strategies can you use to help you manage life as a traveling musician? Samantha will share some of her tips and tricks from managing a busy touring schedule with her band Delta Sugar. Join us!

MPTF MusicianFest Program Funding Opportunity
We announced last year that Local 1000 has been granted the opportunity to fund 5 performances under the MPTF’s MusicianFest program. We still have several spots available!
The MPTF (Music Performance Trust Fund) presents thousands of live, admission-free musical programs annually in the United States and Canada. It is funded by royalties from record labels and is sponsored by the AFM and the record labels.

P2 Updates
The CFM is raising the administration fee for processing of P2 visas. The new fee is $120 for the first musician/technician and $25 per additional musician/technician. The increase is being implemented gradually and the CFM office will accept the old fee until the new year.
The processing time for P2 applications has come down and the CFM is now advising Canadian members applying for P2 visas to get their application in at least 75 days before the first engagement.
