As of October 1, 2022, we have now returned to a more humble balance in our ERF account and we think it is time to return to our traditional $500 no-interest loan model for members in need. If you need an emergency loan, your union's got your back. The no-pressure pay-back period is up to 10 years.
These funds should be used to help cover cost-of-living expenses like rent, utilities, groceries, and medical expenses if you should find your self in financial need..
To apply, you must be a current member in good standing.
Note: you may be responsible for any taxes due as a result of accepting these funds. Please consult your own tax specialist for information about tax status of any money you receive from the Local 1000 Emergency Relief Fund, as tax laws vary in Canada and the US, and from state-to-state or province-to-province.
How Applications Are Processed
The ERF Committee will review applications weekly. Please have your requests to
the Local 1000 office via email by Thursday afternoon. Reviews will take place on
Friday and we will notify you as soon as possible. If approved, we will endeavor to
process your grant by early the following week.
Confidentiality
We are committed to respecting your privacy. Please be assured that your
application and the information in it will be shared on an “as-needed” basis only
with the ERF committee, staff, and the board. No-one else will know that you
applied, or whether or not you received funds.
What Is the Emergency Relief Fund?
The Emergency Relief Fund is a fund made up of donations from members and their friends, fans and family to help support Local 1000 members during crisis. The Emergency Relief Fund has historically consisted of no-interest loans that may be repaid over five years. They have been allocated to members experiencing sudden-and-unexpected loss of income or sudden-and-unexpected expenses. Loans that
are repaid allow the same ERF money to be used to assist members over and over again and are an important way we can support each other. During this historic Covid-19 Crisis, the generosity of our members has allowed us to offer grants instead of loans for a limited time.
Donating to the ERF
Local 1000 members and their supporters can make donations to the ERF fund at
