News from the Executive Board

President’s Message
Greetings and Happy New Year to each of you. I hope your new year is full of music, laughter and no car breakdowns!
Lots happening with your Local! Please take the time to read through this January newsletter and find the important work your Local is doing. Check out the committee reports and see if there is a place for you to join the work!
Just a quick word about Folk Alliance in Kansas City this year. Your Local will be there representing working musicians across North America. Stop by the booth and come by the Showcase Free Zone, room 646. We will have singing Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Local 1000 has secured 5 conference discount passes. By using this discount you will get the pre-conference price of $350. Contact Aaron Fowler if you are interested in using one of these discounts.
Our first membership meeting will be Thursday afternoon, February 2nd at 5:00 PM EST. We will host the meeting for those at the conference in our showcase room, 646. For those not at FAI you can join us via Zoom. Login information is available below.
I want to say again how important it is for members to stay current on your Work Dues. Work Dues is the backbone of the Local. It allows us to do the work that ensure working musicians are treated fairly and are able to make a living wage. Our committees are fighting for the best interest of all working musicians and that means we need your continued support. Please make sure you are filing contract (LS1 or LPPC) for contract protection as well as pension contributions. Your 2.5% working dues is part of a strong Union. If you are working but not filing LS1 or LPPC contracts, you can still make Estimated Work Dues contributions each month on work that is not covered by a Union contract. If each members who is not filing contracts made a monthly payment of just $10 we would raise an additional $25,000 for our most needed projects.
If you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Together we are Mighty!
President Fowler

Fair Trade Music
Did Santa leave a Fair Trade Music t-shirt under the tree for you? HE DIDN’T? Then you know what you have to do, and it’s not contacting Santa’s Customer Service Department. Get a shirt for yourself and maybe for a friend or three. Local 1000 family member Eric Erickson did that and here is the proof. You can go to our amazing Fair Trade Music Store to get yours today! All proceeds from shirt sales go towards funding the Fair Trade Music Committee’s organizing campaign.
Comm Comm Update
The Communications Committee (we call ourselves “The CommComm”) has been busy assembling our annual publication, The New Deal. Look for that to arrive in your inboxes sometime in March 2023. We will be featuring our new Secretary-Treasurer, Donna Nestler, a new Tech Tips article, several member profiles and updates from the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and Fair Trade Music Committees.
We are also reviewing the website to determine what needs to be updated and/or changed. If you have any feedback on the website, please contact Susan Lewis, your Western Representative on the Executive Board. Her email is rebelgal@comcast.net
Please update your profile! If you are not sure how, there is a lovely how-to video that walks you through the process. You must be logged in to complete your profile. If you don’t know your log-in credentials, contact the office: together@local1000.org
