On Friday, January 20th, several of our Local 1000 members will be part of an alternative concert called “The Un-Naugural Concert.” It will be a Local 1000 contracted event and profits will go to ACLU, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, National LGBTQ Task Force, Planned Parenthood and League of Conservation Voters.
We are sorry to have to let you know that as of December 23, 2016, the US Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) has decided to increase the fees for all O and P visa petitions by 42% from US $325 to US $460. The Canadian Federation of Musicians office is advising that December 15, 2016 will be the last day to submit a P2 application to them under the current fee, due to the time it takes them to prepare each petition before sending to the USCIS.

Local 1000 is raffling off a Deering Vega® Long Neck banjo, with a head signed by Pete Seeger and Peggy Seeger, to help us raise funds for Local 1000’s important work. Tickets are $50 each, and we will only be selling 230 tickets (in celebration of 23 years of Local 1000.)
This raffle is open to the public, and there is a limit of 10 tickets per person. The winner will be drawn in February 2017 at the Folk Alliance Conference in Kansas City.
This week we got the bad news that the US Customs and Immigration Service has proposed a fee increase to the I-129 petition related to P and O permits. If the proposed increase is adopted, the fee to the Department of Homeland Security will go up to $460 (currently it is $325).
If you are planning to apply for a P or O permit this year, the Canadian Federation of Musicians office recommends you get your application in by no later than July 5th if at all possible.

The major delays for processing P2 Visas continue, and we have recently learned that processing times are even longer now than they were the last time we updated you. We are monitoring the situation and we have been in close contact with the Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) office. They are about to send out an official notice advising that applications need to be in the office at least 75 calendar days in advance of the first contracted gig.
We have been advised that there are currently major delays in processing P2 Visas, which may potentially affect many of our Canadian members. We have received official word that the Vermont Service Center is approximately 26 days behind in processing petitions.
