Having not won any awards since school – er in at least 30 years, but this month I’ve got four! Well three are by proxy; a band I play with, The Sultans of String, won Best song at the Ontario Folk Awards, Best Musical film at Cannes World Film Festival, and Professional Artist of the Year at the Markham Performing Arts Awards.
In my own right, I was honoured for my services to Irish music in Canada by Comhaltus Canada (Eastern Region) which felt immense.
All of us musicians put endless hard work in to our craft over so many years, and sometimes we all have moments of wondering whether the effort is worth it; so it’s really lovely to have a brief pause to accept the recognition before surging forth again with renewed vigour.
